RAID Data Recovery Process

A RAID data recovery process is unsuccessful if the technician was not able to make the system free from future loss of data. That is the ultimate purpose of a data recovery service.

It doesn’t matter whether you are dealing with a RAID 1 or RAID 5 system, or the more complex system of a SAN (a Storage Area Network). For any service, this is the must-ask question – is it able to make the system immune from any loss of data event in the future?

How We Recover Your Lost Data

The recovery process should follow the basic steps outlined here..

  • The technician should check the systems that are working properly. Those systems that are working correctly should be cloned and transferred to a stable, reliable disk medium.
  • The technician should then determine those parts of the system that are not in good condition. They should be stabilized and repaired. Once in good condition, these systems should be cloned as well, but in a separate disk.
  • After all the cloning processes are done, the set up will be made so that all the systems are put in their original place. Drives are not needed anymore, as they are only used as temporary storage.
  • With the clones as the basis, the arrays are scanned by the R3DataRecovery experts to know the original configuration of the entire system. The specific parameters should be clearly identified. This is not an easy job since there are no two arrays with exactly the same configuration. They will differ in one or more of the following aspects: partition type, disk order, parity rotation, and stripe size.
  • After having determined the parameters, the data recovery technicians from the company will subject the arrays under a de-striping process. Once done, the partitions are now available for mounting. The company will use their special or custom recovery data software for this purpose.
  • Lastly, the company will copy a selection of the missing files to their servers, where integrity tests would be done.

One Reminder

Cloning is a very important step in the process of recovering data. Introducing data to the system should not be done, unless cloning have been first carried out. That important step also matters in processes such as initialization, rebuilding attempts, and reconfiguration.

Also, make sure that the recovery of data isn’t done on the original media. Any educated data recovery expert knows that this is very dangerous to the whole system.
